USA Defeats Canada, Advances to World Baseball Classic Semifinals

The United States defeated Canada 5-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The game was played at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. In the first at-bat, the U.S. team took advantage of Josh Naylor's nervousness, who failed to handle a ground ball from Kyle Schwarber, allowing Bobby Witt to cross home plate and take a 1-0 lead. The Canadian team responded but failed in crucial moments. In the sixth inning, the American offense did damage with two productive hits from Brice Turang and Pete Crow-Armstrong, pushing two more runs to go up 5-0. Canada finally broke the shutout in the bottom of the inning thanks to a single by Black that scored a run and a two-run home run by Josh Naylor to cut the deficit to 5-3. Closer Mason Miller finished the game spectacularly by striking out Jared Young, Edward Julien, and Otto López to secure the victory for the United States. Team USA will face the Dominican Republic in the semifinals.
