13-Year-Old Kills Mother in Florida and Sends Photos of Body to Friend

Court documents have revealed shocking details in the case of the killing of a woman from the U.S. state of Florida by her 13-year-old son. It turned out that he sent photos of his mother's body, whom he stabbed 46 times while she was sleeping, to a friend out of state. The memo from the prosecution noted that the boy, Derek Rosa, took a picture of the body and a selfie with his hands covered in blood just 10 minutes after committing the crime and sent it to a friend, asking for his opinion on what he saw. However, the friend initially thought it was a joke, and later realized the truth after the crime was uncovered. The prosecution also pointed out that the date of the crime, October 12, 2023, held special significance, as the boy was obsessed with the character Jason Voorhees, the killer in the hockey mask from the famous horror film series 'Friday the 13th,' which is always associated with Friday the 13th, a symbol of bad luck and violence. The prosecution added that the boy had written to friends before the crime that he intended to dress up as Jason for Halloween, suggesting that the choice of date was likely influenced by the symbolism of this famous movie character, meaning it was not random but linked to the horror films that influenced him. According to 'People' magazine, Derek Rosa himself was the first to report the crime to the police by calling emergency services. During the call, he confessed to killing his mother, Irene Garcia (39), and explained the details of what he did. When the police arrived, the boy was arrested, and bloody footprints matching his shoes were found from the bedroom to the apartment's front door. The memo also revealed that the defense attempted to implicate the woman's husband as an alternative suspect, but the prosecution confirmed that the husband was in another state at the time of the crime, deeming these claims unsupported by concrete evidence. Derek Rosa's trial is expected to begin in January 2026.
