George Clooney to retire from romantic film roles

American actor George Clooney has announced his retirement from romantic roles in films, citing a desire to make way for new generations and an agreement with his wife, Amal Clooney.

American actor George Clooney has announced his retirement from romantic roles in films. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he revealed he made the decision following a conversation with his wife, Lebanese lawyer Amal Clooney, whom he married in 2014 and with whom he has twins. "I'm not going to do any more romantic movies," he said. As reported by Variety, in March he told the U.S. program 60 Minutes that he wants to make way for the new generation: "Look, I'm 63. I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That's not my job." The actor, known for films like 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' (2000) and 'Ocean's Eleven' (2001), had previously stated his intention to step back from romantic films. "I've been trying to follow the same path as Paul Newman — 'Well, I'm not going to kiss any more girls,'" he added, also recalling his role in the series 'ER' that brought him international fame.
