US Police Search for Man Who Set Fire Over Spiders

American police are searching for a man who caused fires that destroyed several connected residential units after he set fire to his own home to get rid of spiders. According to a statement from the Pocono Mountains Regional Police (Pennsylvania), police responded to a fire report in a building on February 23. According to the statement, McDermott fled the scene in a moving van. Authorities say McDermott is now wanted on charges of arson, causing a catastrophe or exposing others to danger, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering others. They explained that the fire started at 616 Onkous Street and spread to three other connected homes. Upon arrival, police spoke with a witness who said he saw the owner of unit 616, Sean McDermott, setting small fires inside the house all day. He added that he set a small fire on the floor and then placed a small sofa on it. The '69 news' station quoted the witness as saying that he was constantly putting out the fires while McDermott was setting them, which eventually led to the house catching fire completely and the fire spreading to other houses. It was reported that McDermott said he needed to kill the spiders in the house.
