Director Oliver Stone has begun work on his first drama film in a decade, titled ‘White Lies’, starring Josh Hartnett, according to the specialized outlet Deadline. «After almost 10 years away from cinema, I feel like I am truly starting over, just like when I made ‘Platoon’ and ‘Salvador’ in 1986,» said the three-time Oscar winner to the publication. His most recent project is the documentary ‘Lula’, co-directed with Rob Wilson, which follows the trajectory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his return to the presidency of Brazil. Meanwhile, Hartnett will star in ‘Verity’, alongside Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, written by Colleen Hoover. Known for films such as ‘Natural Born Killers’ or ‘Born on the Fourth of July’, Stone is delving into an intimate work that explores «the family, loss and pain, and how love can change shape throughout our lives,» according to the media. Hartnett (‘Oppenheimer’) will play Jack Freeman, a man who repeats the mistakes of his divorced parents in his own marriage with his children and embarks on a passionate journey where he meets a woman with a completely opposite life and begins an unexpected journey of self-discovery. «In ‘White Lies’, Oliver explores a universe that feels personal and presents completely new material from a filmmaker I have long admired and with whom I am excited to work,» Hartnett told Deadline. Principal photography has already begun and is taking place in various locations such as Rome (Italy), Bangkok (Thailand), and Sofia (Bulgaria). Stone’s last narrative feature film was ‘Snowden’ (2016), starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Subsequently, the director focused on documentaries and television.
