American singer and songwriter Barry Manilow announced the day before yesterday that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The 82-year-old Grammy winner stated in a post on Instagram that an MRI he underwent after a long struggle with bronchitis revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung that needs to be removed. Manilow attributed the early detection of his illness to "luck" and the efficiency of his treating physician. He explained that he will undergo surgery to remove the cancerous spot, which has led to the cancellation of scheduled shows. "The doctors don't believe the disease has spread," Manilow continued. "I've undergone tests to confirm their diagnosis. There will be no chemotherapy, no radiation therapy, just chicken soup."
