CBP One App Cancellation Strands 270,000 Migrants

The CBP One application, which allowed migrants to request appointments to enter the U.S. from the southern border, has been terminated, leaving approximately 270,000 people in a state of uncertainty, according to CBS News.

The decision to end CBP One was one of the first actions taken by the new administration of Donald Trump upon taking office in the U.S. This decision was communicated by the Customs and Border Protection Office, which announced the cancellation of all appointments scheduled through the application.

According to estimates from CBS News, thousands of migrants waiting for an appointment to enter the country legally were affected by the suspension of the application, which was launched during Joe Biden's administration in January 2023. Since then, over 930,000 people had used CBP One to present their cases.

The sudden cancellation of the tool has led to tens of thousands of individuals waiting on the Mexican side of the border now finding themselves without clear legal alternatives to enter the U.S. The uncertainty and lack of options have raised concerns and confusion among the affected migrants.

In the midst of this situation, government agencies and humanitarian organizations are assessing possible solutions to address the plight of people stranded after the termination of the appointment system for migrants at the southern border of the United States.
