Trump Suspends Dialogue with Iran Over Protests

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the suspension of dialogue with Iranian authorities until the 'killings' of protesters cease, and assured the demonstrators that 'help is on the way'. 'Iranian patriots, keep protesting!' he wrote in his Truth Social network. 'Guard the names of the killers and those responsible for the abuses. They will pay a high price. I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the senseless killings of protesters stop,' Trump said. This announcement comes after US digital outlet Axios reported that Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, contacted Trump's special envoy for the Middle East and Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, this past weekend with the apparent intention of easing tensions with Washington. The contacts were maintained after Trump threatened to attack the Islamic nation in response to the repression activated by the authorities against the massive demonstrations in that country, which are leaving a high number of dead and detained. On Monday, Trump said he would impose a 25% tariff on any nation that 'does business' with Iran, in a new turn in the campaign of economic pressure on Tehran. Earlier, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, had assured that the American does not rule out military action in Iran. In recent days, opposition groups and various NGOs specializing in human rights have published different figures on the victims caused by the repression. According to the civil organization Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), which operates from the United States, at least 544 people have died in this popular uprising, while the Iranian Human Rights Organization counted 648 dead protesters, including nine minors. 'Help is on the way,' added the head of state in his message, which concluded with a 'MIGA' (Make Iran Great Again) in a variation of his MAGA movement or 'Make America Great Again'. 'Take control of your institutions!'
