Two Pentagon officials reported on Wednesday that the United States is doubling its fleet of A-10 close air support aircraft in the Middle East. These aircraft are capable of providing support to ground troops, even as President Donald Trump stated his desire to end the war with Iran within two to three weeks, according to The New York Times. The officials added that the U.S. Air Force will deploy 18 A-10 aircraft to join the approximately 12 aircraft of the same type already in the region, which American commanders have used to attack Iranian boats and armed militias in Iraq. The A-10 'Warthog' is a close air support aircraft equipped with a powerful cannon in its nose section.
