US and Iran Fail to Reach Agreement in Islamabad

Negotiations between the United States and Iran have failed. A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the two sides' views differed on two important issues, which did not lead to an agreement. According to the Axios news site, the disagreements concerned Iran's demand for control over the Strait of Hormuz and its refusal to give up its stockpile of enriched uranium. US Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Sunday that the negotiating team left Pakistan after failing to reach an agreement following 21 hours of talks. Vance pointed to 'shortcomings in the negotiations' and said Iran 'chose not to accept the American terms,' including a commitment not to manufacture nuclear weapons. 'The bad news is that we did not reach an agreement, and I think this is much worse news for Iran than it is for the United States,' he added. The US team left with 'a very simple proposal,' and it remains to be seen if the Iranians will accept it.
