Pope on Trump: 'He Doesn't Understand the Gospel Message'

The Pope stated that President Trump does not understand the message of the Gospel. According to the pontiff, he is only inviting 'everyone to seek ways to build bridges of peace and reconciliation, to find ways to avoid war whenever possible.' 'I believe the president is not understanding what the message of the Gospel is,' affirmed the Pope, who admitted feeling 'very much' the words addressed to him by Trump, but at the same time stated that he will continue with his mission. 'I think it is very important to return to that path, be it through the United Nations or in other ways, and work for peace,' said Pope León XIV. In response to criticism, Pope León XIV stated that he is 'not afraid' of the Trump administration or 'to strongly proclaim the message of the Gospel.' 'This is what I believe I have to do, what the Church has to do. We are not politicians, we do not deal with international politics with the same perspective that he (Trump) might have.'
