FIFA President Gianni Infantino thanked U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday for his help in organizing the 2026 World Cup, for which the United States will be one of the host countries alongside Canada and Mexico. "He has been and continues to be of great help in everything we do for the World Cup," Infantino said at the American Business Forum (ABF), a forum that brings together political, business, and sports leaders in Miami from November 5 to 6. Trump, whom the FIFA President described as "a close friend," was also one of the participants in this forum, held at the Kaseya Center in Miami. However, Infantino avoided giving a response when asked if the official would be awarded the Peace Prize that FIFA announced on Wednesday, just a month after Trump failed to win the Nobel Peace Prize. The new prize created by FIFA recognizes the work of those who have performed "exceptional and extraordinary" actions in favor of peace that have "united people around the world," the world body said in a statement today. It will be awarded for the first time on December 5 on the occasion of the final draw of the 2026 World Cup to be held in Washington. According to Infantino, it will serve to unite communities "and support anyone who is doing something special" for peace.
