Panamanian baseball players Edmundo Sosa and Justin Lawrence have agreed to new contracts with their teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), avoiding arbitration. Edmundo Sosa, who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies, has reached a 4.4 million dollar agreement for the 2026 season. In the previous 2025 season, Sosa had an acceptable campaign with a .276 batting average, 11 home runs, and an OPS of .776. Utility player 'Mundito' Sosa is set to play his eighth season in the MLB, with the last three being for the Phillies. Meanwhile, Justin Lawrence signed a 1.2 million dollar deal to continue with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2026 season. Lawrence was injured for most of the 2025 season and only appeared in 17 games, where he posted an ERA of 0.51, with 23 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.96. An agreement is also expected between another Panamanian, Jose 'Chema' Caballero, and the New York Yankees.
