US says it killed six people in two new attacks on vessels in the Pacific

Washington, Nov 10 (EFE).- The US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, reported this Monday that the Army sank two boats in the waters of the Eastern Pacific, in two operations in which six presumed 'narcoterrorists' died. 'Yesterday, by order of President (Donald) Trump, two lethal kinetic attacks were carried out against two vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations,' announced Hegseth in a message on X along with a video of the attacks. According to the head of the Pentagon, US intelligence services confirmed that the sunken vessels were 'linked to drug smuggling' and 'were carrying narcotics' while 'transiting a known drug trafficking route in the Eastern Pacific.' 'Both attacks were carried out in international waters and three narcoterrorists were on board each vessel,' he added. 'Six died,' Hegseth reported, adding that there were no injuries among US troops. With these two new attacks, the death toll now exceeds 70, and about twenty vessels have been destroyed as part of the campaign against drug trafficking that the Trump administration has been carrying out since September in Caribbean waters, later extended to the Pacific. In what specialists consider its largest maritime deployment since the first Gulf War (1990-1991), the US maintains about eight warships in Caribbean waters - including six destroyers -, three amphibious vessels and one submarine in the area. The operation, which has been rejected by the governments of Venezuela and Colombia, which Washington accuses of being involved in drug trafficking networks, also includes the dispatch of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford, the largest and most modern in the US fleet, already on its way to the Caribbean. A Democratic initiative in the US Senate to restrict Trump's military campaign in international waters failed last week with 49 votes in favor and 51 against, the latter cast by the Republican bloc, which managed to stop the opposition's symbolic attempt to reduce the attacks. 'Under President Trump's mandate, we are protecting the homeland and eliminating these narcoterrorists who intend to harm our country and its people,' Hegseth defended this Monday. Photo EFE.
